Vacancy Announcement: Project Officer Positions (3)





Nepal Development Society (NeDS), in collaboration with Monash University, is implementing on a five-year research initiative aimed at improving the continuum of care for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in three municipalities in Nepal: ChangunarayanKageshwori Manohara, and Pokhara. The project, Co-Designing a Multi-Level Intervention for Improving Continuum of Care for Non-Communicable Diseases in Three Diverse Cities in Nepal (HRIDAYA), focuses on enhancing the diagnosis, treatment, and long-term care for individuals living with hypertension or diabetes. To support this initiative, we are seeking highly motivated and skilled candidates for the following positions:

Position: Project Officer (3 Positions)

  • Locations: Changunarayan Municipality, Bagmati Province (1); Kageshwori Manohara Municipality, Bagmati Province (1); Pokhara Metropolitan City (1), Gandaki Province
  • Duration: 1 year (with the possibility of extension)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate collaboration and coordination with local municipalities, primary health care providers, and community health workers for the design and execution of planned project activities.
  • Develop strategic plans and work packages to ensure effective implementation of project objectives.
  • Identify and engage relevant stakeholders within the municipality and assist in establishing a technical advisory committee.
  • Support the formation of a consumer advisory committee within the municipality.
  • Organize and document regular meetings of the technical and consumer advisory committees.
  • Conduct system assessments and analyze municipal data to identify individuals living with hypertension and diabetes.
  • Assist in research activities, including data management and analysis.
  • Collaborate closely with primary health care providers to develop and implement capacity-building initiatives.
  • Conduct pre-testing of tools and facilitate semi-structured interviews with stakeholders.
  • Monitor, support, and provide capacity building for research assistants involved in data collection and data management

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health or a related discipline.
  • At least two years of experience in the public health sector.
  • Strong data management skills.
  • Fluency in both English and Nepali.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Vacancy Announcement: Qualitative Expert

Nepal Development Society (NeDS), in collaboration with La Isla Foundation, is implementing a four-year Intervention Development Research Project aimed at developing scalable interventions to reduce harm to migrants and their communities by identifying addressable risks and mitigating them through evidence-based interventions. We are seeking dynamic and enthusiastic candidates for the following position:

Position: Qualitative Expert
Location: Kathmandu Office
Duration: 1 year with the possibility of extension

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement qualitative research methodologies, including interviews, focus groups, and participant observation, tailored to the project’s specific objectives.
  • Develop and advise on research tools such as interview guides, focus group protocols, and coding frameworks to ensure high-quality data collection.
  • Train and build capacity among project staff and local researchers in qualitative data collection and analysis techniques.
  • Oversee and ensure adherence to methodological rigor and ethical standards during the data collection process.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of qualitative data using software like Nvivo and develop thematic reports and insights aligned with the project’s goals.
  • Assist in the preparation of comprehensive project reports, policy briefs, and academic publications by incorporating qualitative findings.
  • Integrate qualitative research findings with quantitative data to provide a comprehensive understanding of the research outcomes.
  • Coordinate and schedule interviews, focus groups, and other research activities, ensuring logistical arrangements are in place.
  • Manage research-related documentation, including consent forms and data storage, ensuring compliance with ethical and regulatory standards.
  • Provide support in budgeting and financial tracking for research activities, including managing expenses for fieldwork and training sessions.
  • Facilitate communication between project staff, stakeholders, and external partners, ensuring smooth and timely updates.
  • Assist in organizing workshops, seminars, and training sessions, including logistical coordination and material preparation.
  • Provide administrative support such as drafting meeting agendas, minutes, and follow-up actions for research activities.
  • Participate in weekly and regular meetings, both online and in-person, and contribute to project events.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum Master’s Degree in Public Health or a related field.
  • At least five years of experience in the public health sector.
  • Proficiency in qualitative data management and N-Vivo software.
  • Fluency in both English and Nepali.

Nepal Development Society (NeDS), in collaboration with the World Diabetes Foundation, is undertaking a three-year research project titled “Community-based Diabetes and Hypertension Prevention and Care in Kaski District of Nepal.” This project targets four rural municipalities in Kaski District, aiming to provide community-level diabetes screening, counseling, and referrals through the mobilization of Female Community Health Volunteers (FCHVs), strengthen diabetes care at health posts, and advocate for the institutionalization of diabetes care at the community and peripheral health facility level. We are seeking dynamic and enthusiastic candidates for the following positions:

1. Position: Project Officer (1)
Location: Pokhara Office
Duration: 1 year with the possibility of extension

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with local municipalities, primary healthcare providers, and community health workers for the design and implementation of planned activities.
  • Develop strategic plans and work packages for the effective execution of the project.
  • Identify and liaise with stakeholders within the municipality, assisting in establishing the technical advisory committee.
  • Support the formation of the consumer advisory committee in the municipality.

2. Position: Physician as Trainer (1)
Location: NeDS Pokhara Office
Duration: 1 year with the possibility of extension

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate strong communication skills, especially in understanding and engaging with the local population.
  • Work collaboratively with FCHVs and health posts to achieve common goals.
  • Train both community-based and facility-based health workers in hypertension prevention, control, and treatment throughout the project duration.
  • Manage the logistics of amlodipine and blood pressure machines, ensuring regular supervision of CHWs in person and over the phone as required.
  • Maintain knowledge of Nepal’s healthcare system and facilities.
  • Ensure registration and licensure with the Nepal Medical Council to practice.
  • Make proactive decisions, report issues to the Program Coordinator or Advisory Committee, and provide updates on project progress.
  • Possess a good understanding of hypertension, its measurement, amlodipine medication, and its side effects.
  • Counsel respondents and coordinate referrals to higher centers when necessary.
  • Support non-project specific clinical services in coordination with the local municipality.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum MBBS or a relevant discipline.
  • At least one year of experience working in the public health sector.
  • Fluency in both English and Nepali.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Preference will be given to local candidates.
