KOSHISH, National Mental Health Self-Help Organization, established in 2008, is breaking the silence and amplifying voices of persons with mental health condition and psychosocial disability for inclusion of mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) within and beyond the health system. KOSHISH promotes self-advocacy in the spirit of “NOTHING ABOUT US WITHOUT US”.
We are looking for the following positions:
Counselor
Number of positions: 2
Reports To: Psychologist
Location: Nuwakot and Rasuwa (Based in Nuwakot)
Duration: Fulltime
Job Overview:
The counsellors, under the supervision of the psychologist, will provide counselling, support in developing necessary materials, carry out trainings and provide supervision, support and guidance to the community campaigners as part of the “Improving the mental health and psychosocial well-being of vulnerable communities in Nuwakot and Rasuwa” project.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Technical standard and quality in service
- Psychological assessment of persons with mental health condition and psychosocial disability, including
detailed assessment of the cases with severe mental health issues - Develop intervention plans for persons who require basic psychosocial support.
- Provide counseling services to the beneficiaries and follow-up.
- Carry out orientation to care givers on promoting psychosocial wellbeing and providing support.
- Provide support during humanitarian response as and when required.
Documentation, database management and reporting
- Prepare and maintain systematic records and database of the beneficiaries including all counseling sessions
ensuring confidentiality. - Prepare and submit periodic reports in the standard template to the supervisor.
Awareness, Sensitization, and community intervention:
- Support in development of awareness materials for community awareness programs.
- Coordination and collaboration with community stakeholders and carry out awareness on mental wellbeing
and suicide prevention in the community and schools. - Support municipalities and health facilities to develop and implement mental health and psychosocial
support programs. - Support in resource mapping and providing linkages to available services and resources.
Capacity development
- Support and build capacity of Community Campaigners on reporting, documentation, awareness raising,
social mobilization etc.
Coordinate for capacity development of SHG members and advocacy groups.
Humanitarian Response:
- Be prepared to be a part of team to work in the interest of the organization based upon the assessment of
the tasks identified by the organization including in humanitarian/ emergency response.
Safety and Security
- Ensure safety & security during project implementation in collaboration with team.
Safeguarding
- Ensure that all children, adults and vulnerable people who are reached by the project are safeguarded to
the greatest extent possible. - Responsible for ensuring compliance with all aspects of the organizational Safeguarding and Prevention of
Sexual Exploitation, abuse and harassment policies and associated standards and procedures in
collaboration with team/central office/ safeguarding focal person.
Required qualification and qualities:
- One year post graduate diploma in counseling psychology.
- Training on counseling from certified institution is desirable.
- Knowledge about community mental health and psychosocial disability.
- At least 2 years of prior work experience of working in the field of mental health.
- Experience of providing psychosocial counseling (Individual, group, family).
- Good at working with people of different age groups.
- Good communication skills.
- Enthusiastic work in the field of mental health.
- Able to work independently and in team.
- Patience, flexible and creative.
- Fluency in writing and speaking (Nepali and English)
Salary: Negotiable as per competence and experience
