Project Officer – Book Bus Nepal Initiative
Location: Kathmandu, Nepal (with frequent travel to project locations)
Reporting to: Program Manager
Position Type: Full-time, Fixed-term (duration as per project timeline)
Salary: NPR (45,000-50,000)
Overview of the Role:
The Project Officer for the BookBus Nepal Initiative will play a critical role in ensuring the successful implementation and coordination of the BookBus project across various provinces in Nepal. The ofcer will oversee the day-to-day operations, liaise with local government units, coordinate with BookBus Fellows, and ensure the delivery of project activities. This role demands a proactive and organized individual with a passion for community engagement, education, entrepreneurship, travel and a strong interest in promoting a reading culture among youth and children.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Coordination & Implementation
- Coordinate the execution of project activities as outlined in the project plan, including BookBus visits, workshops, reading sessions, and community engagement events.
- Monitor and ensure adherence to the project timeline, budget, and objectives.
- Travel to oversee the BookBus Visits in all the project locations
- Liaise with local government units and community partners to secure necessary permissions and support for project activities.
- Ensure all logistical arrangements for project activities, including transportation, venue setup, and resource distribution.
- Collaborate with Fellows to design and implement reading sessions, book clubs, and other activities that encourage a love for reading.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Act as the primary point of contact between Karkhana Samuha and local communities, government units, and other stakeholders.
- Foster and maintain relationships with local youth, BookBus Fellows, US Alumni, and other key partners.
- Facilitate regular communication and feedback sessions with stakeholders to ensure the project remains aligned with community needs.
Training & Capacity Building
- Assist in the onboarding and training of BookBus Fellows, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to lead project activities.
- Organize and conduct monthly professional and personal development sessions for BookBus Fellows.
- Support Fellows in the design and implementation of community engagement strategies and activities.
Monitoring & Evaluation:
- Collect and maintain detailed records of project activities, participant engagement, and feedback.
- Contribute to the preparation of periodic project reports, highlighting progress, challenges, and areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with the Program Manager in evaluating the efectiveness of project activities and adjusting strategies as needed.
Communication & Reporting:
- Prepare and submit regular updates and reports to the Program Manager on the progress of project activities.
- Document success stories, lessons learned, and impact assessments for internal and external communication.
- Assist in the creation of promotional materials and social media content to raise awareness about the BookBus initiative.
Qualifications and Skills:
- At least 2-3 years of experience in project management, community development, or educational programs.
- Strong understanding of Human Centered Design, social justice, climate change, and STEM education.
- A strong interest in promoting a reading culture, with experience in literacy programs or related initiatives.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and work under pressure.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate diverse stakeholders.
- Experience working with marginalized communities and a commitment to promoting gender equity and social inclusion.
- Fluency in Nepali and English (both spoken and written).
- Willingness to travel extensively within project areas.
Preferred:
- Experience in a similar role within the non-proft or education sectors.
- Previous experience working with US-funded projects or international organizations.
