About CSC
Established in 2015, Centre for Social Change (CSC) is a non-profit making social think-tank based in Kathmandu, Nepal. CSC operates in three primary areas: peace, governance and sustainability. In these thematic areas, CSC generates knowledge and evidence to support strong policy advocacies. It creates democratic spaces for dialogue, empowers government and non-government representatives on conflict transformation and prevention, empowers citizens in governance processes and strengthens state-society relationships. Thus, promoting trust and effective collaboration for peaceful and sustainable society. Recognizing the growing urgency of climate change, the organization is expanding its work to explore environmental peacebuilding and governance.
Job Profile
The role of ‘Research/Program Associate’ involves a dynamic blend of research and program implementation. The Associate is responsible for supporting research and program activities within the Governance Monitoring Centre Nepal (GMC Nepal), an initiative of CSC. Specific duties include supporting the development and implementation of research methodologies such as, conducting literature reviews, assisting in data collection and analysis, and contributing to the preparation of research reports and knowledge materials. Additionally, the Associate will provide support for program activities such as event planning and coordination, stakeholder engagement and monitoring tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the production of quarterly media monitoring reports on governance conflicts and coordination by gathering data from national and provincial newspapers. Compile and analyze media coverage to identify trends and emerging issues, utilizing primarily quantitative data complemented by qualitative insights.
- Contribute to the production of an annual consolidated media monitoring report by conducting literature reviews, data analysis, and report writing.
- Provide research support to team members, especially in developing learning materials, knowledge management and skill development products for dissemination among relevant stakeholders and target groups.
- Coordinate and assist in organizing dialogues, workshops, orientations and other events related to governance, civic engagement, and climate justice at national, provincial, and local levels.
- Conduct fieldwork, including data collection and stakeholder engagement.
- Monitor project activities and collect data for evaluation purposes.
- Coordinate with team members, government officials, civil society organizations and community members.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the supervisor and leadership team.
Qualifications and Skills Required
- Bachelor’s degree completed in social sciences, development studies, or a related field. A master’s degree being an advantage.
- Strong research and analytical skills, with a proven ability to collect, analyze, and interpret both qualitative and quantitative data.
- Demonstrated experience in conducting fieldwork and engaging with communities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Nepali, with English proficiency being an advantage.
- Proficiency in computer software for data collection, analysis and report writing.
- Commitment to gender equality, social justice, and sustainable development.
