Organizational Context and Scope
As the leading inter-governmental organization promoting humane and orderly migration since 1951, IOM plays a key role to support the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through different areas of intervention that connect both humanitarian assistance and sustainable development.
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development recognizes that migration is a powerful driver of sustainable development, for migrants and their communities. Migration brings significant benefits in the form of skills, strengthening the labour force, investment, and cultural diversity. It supports growth by contributing to the improvement of communities in countries of origin through the transfer of skills and financial resources.
IOM contributes to the government of Nepal’s efforts to manage migration more effectively through a wide range of projects aligned to IOM’s Migration Governance Framework (MiGOF), the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) and the Global Compact for Migration (GCM), partnering with Governments, Civil Society, Private Sector and academia.
IOM Nepal has been working to promote a comprehensive, evidence and rights-based approach to migration in the context of environmental degradation, climate change and disasters for the benefit of migrants and societies in addition to projects supporting Labour Mobility; Migrant Assistance & Protection; Migration and Development, Refugee Resettlement, Migration and Health and Emergency Response.
Under the overall Supervision of the Chief of Mission and direct supervision of the National Program Officer/Head MECR, and in close coordination with the Communication FP in the mission, the incumbent will be responsible for assisting in implementation of activities under Migration, Environment, Climate Change and Risk Reduction Division.
Core Functions / Responsibilities
Support in Implementing Project Activities:
- Collaborate with Head of MECR, project managers and team members to assist in executing project activities under the MECR unit.
- Assist the National Program Officer/ Head MECR in the planning, coordination, and monitoring of project activities to support efficient and effective implementation.
- Coordinate with implementing partners/service providers and assist in monitoring the implementation of project tasks.
- Support in the development of procurement plans, including procurement schedules, specifications, and budget estimates, in accordance with project guidelines and regulations.
- Coordinate with Administrative Assistant and P&L unit on procurement processes, such as vendor selection, bidding, contracting, and delivery of visibility materials under MECR Department.
Communication Focal Point:
- Serve as Communication Focal Point for the projects under MECR unit.
- Assist in the preparation of the MECR communication plan to effectively reach target audiences and convey project impact and outcomes.
- Draft communication materials, such as social media content, briefs, and reports, to keep stakeholders informed about project progress and achievements.
- Liaise with stakeholders, partners, and beneficiaries to facilitate information exchange, coordinate meetings, and address inquiries.
- Support in drafting sections of projects reports as per project contractual agreement.
Project Development:
- Provide general and administrative assistance in the preparation of project proposals, concept notes, and grant applications.
- Assist in the drafting of project budgets, including cost estimates, financial projections, and budget justifications.
Outreach Activities:
- Plan and implement outreach and community engagement activities to raise awareness, mobilize support, and promote projects objectives under MECR unit.
2. Support in organizing events and campaigns to engage stakeholders, beneficiaries, and the wider community in project activities.
Performs other duties as maybe assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Development Studies, Environment and Climate Change from accredited Institute with minimum 4 years of relevant professional experience. OR
- High School degree in the above field with minimum 6 years of relevant professional experience.
Experience
- Experience working with UN agencies.
- Experience working with government agencies will be an asset.
- Experience in conducting research.
- Experience developing knowledge products, concept notes and research proposals.
- Experience in developing high quality social media/ communication materials.
- Attention to detail and ability to organize.
- Ability to work under pressure with minimum supervision.
Skills
- Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint will be an advantage.
- Report writing and proposal development skills.
- Communication and coordination skills.
- Leadership skills.
Languages
Fluency in English and Nepali is required (oral and written).

Appointment will be subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment. Only Nepali Nationals will be considered for this position.
