Aasaman Nepal (ASN) ‘A pioneer organization for education and nutrition’, is one of the leading Terai based NGOs led and managed by social activists since its establishment in Dhanusha, Janakpur in 1999. ASN has been engaged in developing and implementing programs aimed at protection, promotion and fulfillment of child rights in Nepal. Currently ASN has been working in 24 districts under 6 Thematic Areas as: Education/Child Protection, Women Empowerment, Livelihood/ Natural Resource Management, Disaster Risk Reduction, Health/ Nutrition and Good Governance.

Aasaman Nepal with Street Child will be executing “Build the Basics project” which aims to implement integrated intervention to alleviate learning loss and accelerate learning levels for 36,000 children; strengthen school capacities for continued learning and retention of students in 600 state schools across 40 Local Governments; and engage in evidence-based advocacy for proportional actions at the systems level in Madhesh Province and Karnali Province.

The Aasaman Nepal is looking for the self-motivated, result oriented and hard-working Nepali citizen for the following positions:

Teaching and Learning Mentor – Thirteen (Jajarkot – 3, Salyan – 5 and Rautahat – 5)

Job Description

  • Assist in the induction and orientation of new teachers, helping them understand Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) pedagogies.
  • Provide pedagogical support to teachers by sharing effective teaching strategies, methodologies, and instructional resources.
  • Help teachers enhance their teaching skills and implement innovative and student-centered teaching practices.
  • Collaborate with teachers to develop comprehensive lesson plans aligned with the TaRL manual along with national curriculum.
  • Provide guidance on incorporating appropriate teaching techniques, differentiation, and assessment methods.
  • Conduct regular classroom observations to assess teaching practices, classroom management, and student engagement.
  • Provide constructive feedback to teachers, highlighting areas of improvement and suggesting strategies for enhancement.
  •  Identify the professional development needs of teachers and assist in organizing relevant training workshops, seminars, and conferences.
  • Encourage teachers to participate in professional development activities to stay updated with the latest educational trends.
  •  Support teachers in regular assessments and evaluating student performance and analyze assessment data and use it to inform instruction, identify learning gaps, and implement remedial measures.
  • Promote collaboration among teachers, facilitating the sharing of best practices and experiences.
  • Create a supportive and empathetic environment where teachers can share their concerns, seek guidance, and receive encouragement.
  • Maintain records of mentoring activities, assessments, and professional development plans.
  •  Manage and provide relevant teaching resources and materials to support teachers’ professional growth.
  • Liaise with LG mentor, school administrators, education officials, and community members to promote teacher development initiatives.
  • Mentors should possess a deep understanding of pedagogical approaches, curriculum frameworks, and teaching methodologies.
  • Mentors should have skills in conducting classroom observations, providing constructive feedback, and guiding teachers towards improvement.
  • Encourage teachers to reflect on their teaching practices, analyze student outcomes, and adapt their strategies accordingly.
  •  Mentors should have updated with the latest educational research, trends, and policies to provide relevant guidance to teachers.
  • Inform and share regularly about the meeting, regular activities, training and different events of the program with the schools, community and other stakeholders.
  • Share and update about the progress of the activities and challenges with the district coordinators.
  • Facilitate various meetings, workshops, interactions at community and school level.
  •  Support in program planning, implementation, and monitoring
  • Prepare report of each event, meeting and visit.
  • Collect case studies of different incident, children, community and school related with the program.
  •  Applicants with direct experience working in schools or educational institutions, particularly with TaRL pedagogies, will be given preference.

Qualification and required skills:

  •  Intermediate level in Education or any related field with minimum 2 years of working experience especially in education projects, particularly on girls and inclusive education; gender programming.

Languages: Strong command of Nepali, English (oral and written) and local language preferred/required.
