Description
of task
Within
the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Head of RCO and the Sustainable Peace and Development Advisor,
the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
·
Support
the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office and UN Country Team in their efforts to
promote, localize and implement the SDGs in Nepal;
·
Ensure
efficient exchange of information and planning of joint UN activities that
support the SDGs achievement in Nepal;
·
Support
the coordination on SDG-related work and joint programmes among UN
agencies/inter-agency working groups;
·
Conduct
research, collect, analyse and compile findings on progress and constraints in
achieving the SDGs in Nepal;
·
Support
the preparation of periodic analytical updates on SDGs through monitoring and
reporting to the UN Country Team;
·
Provide
secretariat support to the SDG Working Group;
·
Review
publications and findings on actions on the SDGs relevant for the UN Country
Team in Nepal;
·
Support
the efforts of the UN Communications Group in raising awareness about the UN’s
work on SDGs by contributing to the development of outreach materials as well
as planning and implementation of awareness raising campaigns, roadshows, etc.;
·
Coordinate
with the UN Communications Group on all SDG-related communications and advocacy
initiatives of the UN Country;
·
Systematically
include and mainstream gender and social inclusion parameters in all
initiatives and activities; and
·
Prepare
briefing notes and talking points on SDGs to the Resident Coordinator and UN
Country Team.
Qualifications/Requirements
Required
degree level
Master degree or equivalent
Educational

Advanced
higher degree (Master’s or equivalent) in a relevant area, e.g. social or
political sciences, international relations, development studies, economics,
public administration; a first-level university degree or equivalent in
combination with relevant training and/or professional experience may be
accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree;

At
least 2 years of professional work experience at the national and/or
international level in international development cooperation, or human rights,
or other relevant programmes; experience with international organization in the
area of sustainable development goals is an asset, as is experience working in
the UN or other international development organization;

Work
experience in the region is an asset;
·
Excellent
oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
·
Accuracy
and professionalism in document production and editing;
·
Excellent
interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work
inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots
community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at
different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for
development.
·
Ability
to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment;
ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and
national personnel;
·
Solid
overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office
applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database
management; and office technology equipment;

Self-motivated,
ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
·
Sound
security awareness;
·
Have
affinity with or interest in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, volunteerism
as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
