International Organization for Migration (IOM) is looking for suitable candidate for the position of Consultant – Nurse to assist Medical Health Department as part of Front Line of Defense (FLOD) through UN COVID-19 Clinic, according to the Terms of Reference below. Position: Consultant – Nurse

Duty Station: Kathmandu
Type of Appointment: UG, 1 month, with possibility of extension
Estimated Starting Date: As soon as possible
Closing Date: 01 June 2021

Context:

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission, Chief Migration Health Officer and in coordination with Senior Migration Health Physician and direct supervision of the Head Nurse, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities in relation to the COVID-19 isolation unit and MHD in Kathmandu, Nepal

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

1. Perform daily nursing activities in the UN COVID 19 clinic and at the COVID 19 isolation ward.
a. Nursing examination:,
i. Vital signs, weight, height, visual acuity;
ii. Blood, urine collection as required;
b. Follow up with referred assessments such Lab or Imaging;
c. Laboratory testing including RT PCR swab collection for COVID-19
d. Vaccine administration, storage and handling knowledge.
e. Treatment and referrals as advised by doctor.
f. Documentation, certification and information transmission; and,
g. Other technical areas as may be required.
2. Provide information and detailed explanations to the patients in the UN clinic as well as at the isolation ward.
3. Ensure proper identification and follow-up by:
• Comprehensive history taking;
• Accurate and thorough Bio-data collection;
• Ensuring ID verification
• Keeping a register of applicants who undergo health investigations and testing.
4. Able to run the COVID-19 isolation ward and to be able to identify any cases which needs immediate escalation of care.
5. Manage and provide treatment to COVID-19 patients on shift wise including night duty.
6. Able to provide IV medicines administration, take blood sample, do ECG , provide oxygen, provide care to patient round the clock as per the instruction and duty hours.
7. General knowledge of medicine prescribed.
8. Able to visit COVID-19 patient for home isolation monitoring.
9. Maintain and monitor the COVID-19 clinic and isolation ward inventory and stock of medical kits and emergency kits.
10. Prepare administrative reports and program updates as necessary.
11. Report to head nurse directly and senior migration health physician.
12. Support the planning and execution of mobile missions if applicable.
13. Maintain collaborative relationships with various partners to facilitate the follow up and relevant information sharing. Partners include internal IOM departments, other health providers, panel physicians, other UN agencies or NGO’s and others as applicable.
14. Collect statistical information and share with the Head Nurse or Senior MHP as present and agreed upon format.
15. Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited Institution with five years of clinical experience; Or
  •  Completed High School Degree in Nursing with seven years’ work experience in related field;
  • Valid license to practice nursing in Nepal.

Experience

  • Excellent technical skills, including in phlebotomy.
  • Previous experience in RT PCR swab collection for COVID-19 patients.
  • Previous experience in treating and stabilization of COVID-19 patient will be an added advantage.
  • Training or working experience in the areas of Intensive and Critical Care Unit and emergency room will be an advantage.
  • BLS/ACLS certification will be an added advantage.
  • Computer Literacy required. MS Office suite (word, Excel, Access)

Other Requirements

  • Personal health insurance package that covers C-19
  • COVID-19 vaccination completed Languages
  • Fluency in English and Nepali is required. Proficiency in other languages is an advantage.
