Nepal Law Campus to enrol only 300 students in LLB
Nepal Law campus had decided to enrol only 300 students in its Bachelor of Law(LLB) programme from this academic session.
Issuing notice for the entrance examination of LLB, the college stated that students would be admitted on merit basis from this year onwards.
"We have been given only 300 seats. we have decided to enrol only 300 students as per the instruction given by Tribhuvan university Executive Council," said DN Parajuli, Campus chief of Nepal Law Campus.
From among the 300 seats.240 students will be selected through free competition while 60 seats have been given for women, indigenous nationalities, Madhesis, Dalits , People with disabilities, people from marginalised communities Muslim , Tharu and others.
"We have recommended that there should be limited seats for law campus to ensure quality education. A decision to this effect was taken at a joint meeting of the faculty board and campus heads considering the poor infrastructure of the college and limited number of teachers," said Professor Bijay Singh Sijapati, Dean, Faculty of Law, Tribhuvan University.
Citing lack of infrastructure and insufficient number of teachers, the campus has decided to admit only 800 students in the programme last year. But the students had protested the decision. The supreme court had then issued an interim order to allow seats for law course and select students on merit basis through entrance examination. it is not only Nepal Law Campus for which limited seats been allocated.
Tribhuvan University has allocated limited seats for six other campuses than offer course in law. A total of 250 seats have been allocated for Prithvi Narayan Campus, Pokhara and 200 seats each for Mahendra Multiple Campus, Dharan and Nepalgunj, Butwal Multiple Campus, Mahendra Bindeshwari Multiple Campus, Rajabiraj and Harikhetan Multiple Campus, Birgunj.
Last year, in October, about 12.000 students were enrolled in LLB programme.
